Successful Open Day at CALA and LEX with many visitors The Centre for Advanced Laser Applications had open doors for the public on 3.10.2024, the open day on the Garching research campus. More than 500 interested visitors came to find out about research using one of the most powerful lasers at a European university. The CALA scientists were on hand to answer questions. They explained how the most powerful laser pulses are generated and could usher in a new era in the future as particle accelerators in medicine and fundamental research. In addition to guided tours through the lab space of CALA or LEX, there were also experiments to try out for yourself. Guests at all ages could adjust a laser beam themselves and witness the sensitivity of the laser wavefront displayed via a Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
